The HPC Skills Platform and European Collaboration for Training (HPC SPECTRA) is a project funded by the EuroHPC JU under the grant 101136267, and it has the goal to establish a platform that manages all trainings conducted in Europe as well as co-organize the Internation HPC Summer School (IHPCSS) and fund European Students attending it.
The main part is to establish a training management system such as indico that can be used to set up and organize trainings done by all but especially National Competence Centers (NCC) and Centers of Excellency (CoE) which are effort funded by the EuroHPC JU as well. This training platform should also be used to apply a standardized skill framework to the trainings, allowing for more tight collaboration between centers. The skill framework used is the skill tree developed by the HPC Certification Forum, which the GWDG has a major contribution to.
The second part is the contribution to the IHPCSS, which is partly managed by the Irish partner from ICHEC who has been involved for many years. This project will fund more than 30 Students to attend the Summer School, which was held in Japan in 2024 and Portugal in 2025. This is a great opportunity for students to make connections and advance their knowledge in programming.
The first project goal is to publish the Training platform at the end of 2024 so that new courses can be added. There will also be a test phase for 6 Month, meaning the full platform will become available to all in mid 2025. The second goal is to manage and fund both the 2024 and 2025 version of the International HPC Summer School (IHPCSS).
The GWDG is the leading expert in the skill tree, which is a skill framework and managed by the HPC Certification Forum (HPC CF). This was established in 2018 by Prof. Julian Kunkel and many current employees are actively contributing to this Open-Source teaching effort. The contributions to the project are updating the skill tree with new skills, as well as updating the framework completely to keep it up to date with new teaching research.
