The Project European Virtual Training Academy (EViTA) focuses on advancing the existing project HPC SPECTRA in terms of the training platform, which is part of the HPC in Europe portal, as well as opening calls for modules, which are singular training content that can be freely accessed and combined into various courses. The focus is on improving the overall availability and quality of the training material in Europe. Two controlling mechanisms will ensure this. The first is a peer-reviewed process that ensures that the uploaded material follows quality guidelines. The produced material will be uploaded to a material repository, which is open and free to use by anyone who needs teaching material. The second is the use of the Skill tree, which is a framework for mapping learning objectives to learnable objects called skills. These are also the core of the currently developed training platform in the HPC SPECTRA project, so the EViTA project will draw on many of the partners and create synergies across Europe. Additionally, the project wants to establish an examination and certification scheme that allows students to test their knowledge and gain certificates. These can be combined to professional profiles such as “Basic HPC user”, “HPC developer Level 1/2/3”, “HPC Admin” and more. Furthermore, investigations and proposal on connecting these certificates to both micro credentials and ECTS will be done.Furthermore, is it that we will also investigate the possibility of connection these certificates to both mC and ECTS?

Project Goals

First goal for the project is to advance the HPC in Europe Portal training platform with a large and peer-reviewed module catalogue. The second goal is to establish exams and certificates for courses using the modules, which will also include exams done in person, for example, in universities. The third goal of the project is to offer three funded calls for the generation of training modules, which will be disseminated from the platform.

GWDG’s Role in the project

The GWDG is the expert on the skill tree and, therefore, an integral part of the framework for the modules, examinations, and certificates. Many advances in the HPC Certification Forum (HPC CF) have been made by Julian Kunkel, the lead of the Working Group Computing, and many of the employees at GWDG. The HPC CF is the current authority on the skill tree in Europe. GWDG has been and will continue to be advancing the skill framework and associated assets, such as certificates.
